Overview

9 Cups ("the App") is a daily nutrition tracker built for people following therapeutic diets for MS and autoimmune conditions. We believe your health data is deeply personal and should stay entirely under your control.

The short version: We collect nothing. We store nothing on servers. We have no analytics, no tracking, no ads, and no accounts. Everything stays on your iPhone.

Data Collection

9 Cups does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on external servers. Specifically:

• No account required. No email, no name, no phone number, no sign-up of any kind.
• No analytics or tracking. We do not use Google Analytics, Firebase, Mixpanel, or any third-party analytics service.
• No advertising. There are no ads and no ad-tracking SDKs in the App.
• No network requests outside of Snap & Track. The core app functions entirely offline. The only network requests are made by the optional Snap & Track feature, which sends photos to Anthropic for food analysis (see Snap & Track section below).
• No health data sharing. The App does not integrate with Apple HealthKit, Google Fit, or any health data platform.

Data Storage

All data you enter (daily food logs, settings, display name) is stored locally on your device using Apple's CoreData framework. This data:

• Lives only on your iPhone
• Is protected by your device's passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID
• Is included in your iCloud backups only if you have iCloud Backup enabled in your device settings (this is controlled by Apple, not by us)
• Is permanently deleted if you uninstall the App

Third-Party Services

The core 9 Cups app uses zero third-party services beyond Apple's standard iOS frameworks (SwiftUI, CoreData). There are no third-party analytics, ads, or tracking libraries.

Snap & Track

When you use the Snap & Track feature, food photos you take or select are sent to Anthropic's API for analysis. Please be aware of the following:

• Photos are not stored by 9 Cups. We have no servers and do not retain any images.
• Photos are processed by Anthropic. Images are transmitted securely (HTTPS) to Anthropic's API, which identifies foods and returns a text result. Anthropic's data handling is governed by their Privacy Policy. Anthropic's API does not use your data to train models by default.
• Photos are resized before transmission. Images are reduced to 512x512 pixels on your device before being sent, minimizing data transferred.
• Only the food analysis result is saved locally. The numerical cup increments (e.g., "+1 cup leafy greens") are stored on your device. No image data is retained.
• Snap & Track is entirely optional. You can use all other app features without ever using this feature or sending any data externally.

By using Snap & Track, you acknowledge that food photos will be processed by Anthropic in accordance with their privacy policy.

Children's Privacy

9 Cups is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. Since we collect no information from anyone, this is inherently satisfied.

Changes to This Policy

If we ever change this policy, we will update this page and the effective date above. Since we collect no data, meaningful changes are unlikely. If a future version introduces any network features, we will update this policy before release and make the changes clear.
